college exciting but hard. i made a pie. this concludes this week's week roundup. /hj
i had a class on friday that i somehow managed to make the world's most implausible mixup on.
picture you are me. having sat around for a year, and discovered some of the limits of commercially-available transgender Things and also permanently possessed of a sense of "if you want something done, do it yourself"-ness. so i went 'ok ill make it myself. and i will then make a business or something doing that'. i wound up enrolling in a couple business classes and a gender and sexuality class, some workshop that wanted six hours out of me every friday.
so i was like dragging my feet on that because gOD i do not want to do six hours of gender and sexuality lecture every day, thanks. that sounds miserable. i just want to be able to put 'minor in Gay and Trans' on my resume.
turns out
it was an industrial fabrication class
and i am going to finally get to learn how to weld. and build a whole bus stop. that will then be installed somewhere in the city and i will be able to point at it and go "i made that"
i'm actually super fucking excited about this
now i am going to lay down, do my readings and eat an entire pudding pie.

hell yeah, big structural welding stuff is so satisfying to be a part of. My personal welding projects were all pretty small but I was perpetually jealous of the class 2 and 3 boys who got to work on the big orders our school got for maintenance and parts b/c that's actually, like... work where you see and understand what you're making (unlike machining. Where half the time the thing you're making might as well be abstract art)
Also welding is fun but it also sucks, and I hope you have a better time with it than I did.

I also hope the welding goes better for me than it did for you; i remember hearing you talk about it and going "huh. that sounds frustrating" pretty much every time XDD we only have about two months to build every part and put the entire structure together, so I'll have to learn fast and that is a bit of an intimidating prospect.

I also learned welding backwards -- started with TIG, moved onto MIG/MAG and stick. If you start with MIG it's basically just a hot glue gun that sprays metal, much easier to get your hand around and work with.
I also eventually lost my drive for practicing b/c I kept getting electrocuted by the machinery. Just my bad luck tbh.
