*Not including original work posted on the Archive for archival purposes, but including the fanfic of my novel that I based loosely off of other people's Witcher works.
This year I wrote and posted:
- fic over - fandoms.
Total wordcount: AO3 lists 160,677
Overall Thoughts:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less; I'd wanted to write a bunch more fics by March. Regardless, though... it's been a good haul.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
Caring about things that no one else really finds any interest in and making it cool anyway; emblematic of this is probably we became such strangers now, falling out, on account of it had a target audience of 1 and a total readership of 18, and also is one of my favorite things I've ever written. I kept on in that vein. Can't complain.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Also we became such strangers now, falling out. Something about it just makes me ;-;
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Yes, but I haven't published it yet. I'm writing a slash fic like a murder mystery. The couple doesn't even appear on screen once in the entire fic. It's like negative space work but for horrible dead-dove mind control nonsense. And I have learned... stuff... I think. I don't know. Mostly I'm learning that I'm better at doing this stuff than I think I am XD
My best story of this year:
I am not nearly objective enough to judge that but i'm going to call it Context. ie: the one i haven't posted yet that I just talked about.
My most popular story of this year:
Bite Down, hands down.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
We became such strangers now, fading out.
My least favorite story this year:
there is someone in the archive (not the one you're thinking); insert that one tumblr post about some art being like an exorcism. This one is written fine but I'm like. every time I look at it I debate taking it down because I don't think hatefic is terribly nice and the magnusarchives fans are, like, fine. I may not have liked Jon Magnusarchives at all but that's my business. At the very least I should probably take it out of the tag but I'm kind of committed to being accurate at the very least.
There's a second chapter to it that I haven't posted. Probably for the best.
Most fun story to write:
Probably Bite Down. Nothing makes you want to slam out some smut like getting to engage in some old-fashioned trollbaiting and piss off an asshole on the archive. I had so much fun with that and I was snickering the entire time I was pecking away at my keyboard.
Story with the sweetest moment:
The Stunticons and their Garden for reasons of that's like, the point.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
I should say Bite Down again because objectively that one is sexier but uhhhhhhhHHHHH to ME PERSONALLY. Definitely Laser Core. I'm not even ashamed of myself, Laser Core is like blatantly snuff kink for kink's sake.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Also almost certainly Laser Core, but I think "hard snuff via organfucking" is actually really in character for me.
Most overdue:
HHhhhhhhah. The Stunticons and their Garden. I have like literally one more chapter left and then it's done and i can't... focus on it... or frankly remember to even come back to it half the time.
Most eye roll-worthy title:
All of them? Like, all of them? Literally all of them? But probably taking the cake is the drabble where i do write graphic violence on account of... well.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
This is gonna sound like a cop-out but Written in Blood. Rex avoids responsibility the same way other people avoid, like, stabbing themselves in the hands, so seeing him try to maintain it was interesting.
Hardest story to write:
We became such strangers now, falling out. The interpersonal tension in large chunks of that one is thick enough to cut with a knife and I kept hiding from my wip because augh augh augh socially awkward tension. And i couldn't even cut it down because, like, that was the point, and I wanted to make sure the reader suffered too so that the release of tension at the end was a real breath of fresh air, so I had to just work through it.
Biggest Disappointment:
I wanted more attention on we became such strangers now, falling out, and I still feel like it's been overlooked.
Biggest Surprise:
The amount of attention Bite Down gets and still got.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Too personal; not answering. I kind of scooped out my entire insides and threw them at the wall for a lot of these and they tell you more about me than I'd care to admit.
Favorite opening line:
I don't really have one, honestly.
Favorite closing line:
Don't really have one of these either.
In conclusion:
Yay words?
More seriously, I've finally gotten the knack back for shorter-term fiction, which is nice. Writing nothing but novel-length hooks and getting stuck and compressing a long story into a shorter one and spanning several years in the span of 1000 words and cutting my entire story out from under itself in the process was getting really irritating.
Fic-writing goals for 2021:
FINISH THE SHIT THAT I KEEP SAYING I'M GOING TO WRITE. The number of dropped fucking wips...
Also, take more stabs into oc/canon shipping. It's fun.

This made me check out a few more of your fics too.
Is it okay if I steal this meme to do myself? :3

and haha yeah... I wrote enough to break my arms this year LOL. was less than ideal. Not reflected in my a03 wordcount though because i have like (at last count, at least) ~100,000 words in wips from this year too
