I am having headcanons which may or may not be your cup of tea but I’m gonna share em.
1. Both like explosions. Wildrider likes loud noises. Brawl is a loud noise or the cause of one 90% of the time.
2. Brawl will not judge Wildrider for acting like Wildrider, Wildrider will not judge Brawl for not doing big words or numbers well. Brawl to me has robot dyslexia and dyscalculia but never got any support for it.
3. Neither of them the sensible one in the relationship but Brawl is grounded enough to go ‘huh. That might be a bad idea’. If Wildrider wants to put fireworks on his wheels. (Provided he isn’t drunk or high and therefore the one putting the fireworks on Wildrider’s wheels.)
4. Honestly it is a surprisingly functional relationship considering who their gestalts are. Brawl tends to say what he means bluntly and literally and so does Wildrider, they actually communicate things.
Frankly i think for 4, the fact that their gestalts are who they are provides a bunch of the groundwork. Brawl spends most of his time around like... Vortex, who is not quite "like wildrider" in any way except that Vortex has destructive tendencies and no real interest in exercising his self-control. Brawl would be used to dealing with that sort of thing, and Wildrider's more innocent "no i don't have any way to stop acting on these impulses, it does not work, but i'm not actually interested in doing this on purpose to hurt people i like most of the time" which is a nice change of pace. Brawl is like... frankly, I think Brawl is like the "nice" version of Motormaster to a degree. They both (in my head, at least) believe in the value of working together to achieve common goals and would rather have some sort of cohesion, but Motormaster attempts to make this happen by beating anything he sees as dissent out of his gestaltmates and Brawl is just like ".......so uh...... can we- can we stop fighting now? can we just go do something? and fight later?" In both cases, they have, like, the "worse" version of each other on their own team, you know? And neither of them are the kind of people who take a look at people they don't know and go "you are exactly like this person I know" so they'd just, like... be able to look past the bullshit and see the good parts of this or that behavior without necessarily projecting *all* the things on them.
Anyway yeah no these headcanons all vibe pretty nicely with mine :D with the exception, I guess, of like- my Brawl I've never actually thought about having dyscalculia or dyslexia or really any learning disability; I've just looked at him and gone "sees that the war is stupid, has no real goals or ambitions within the decepticons, cannot leave" and stopped there. I'm a little loathe to go "and he's got a learning disability" after that because like, I don't, and I feel like it could hedge into "Brawl has no ambitions because he's stupid" (ugh) territory if I wind up writing that in, but it has good vibes nonetheless
i'd also like to put in the final additional headcanon that Brawl has the best like positive emotional intelligence of anyone on the Combaticons or Stunticons gestalt, and is going to spend all of like one year maximum hanging out with Wildrider in any context and just be like "oh primus someone needs to help these newbuilds, they all have so many problems. what the hell" because where everyone else just sees a bunch of fail weirdos with terrible personalities who are not nice to each other because they suck or something, Brawl is a) not doing the "i'm better than them so i get some status" thing and b) close enough to see how much they're like. hurting each other. plus also he's a part of a gestalt containing people like vortex and swindle (who- for the record i love them but i wouldn't want either one in my brain lmfao) and he would understand how leaving is just not actually an option better than any non-gestalt member. I don't know that I think he'd actually be able to help but he might (at least Try to) talk some sense into Motormaster, at the risk of sounding like a soft-sparked Autobaby loser nerd.
I’m just projecting on the robot tank with my own learning disabilities tbh. When I see characters fandom points at and goes ‘they’re just stupid for reasons’ I think about how many relatives of mine who are 40+ left school at like 15, got labelled as ‘stupid’ and were dyslexic and had dyscalculia.
I agree! Brawl feels that way to me too. It gives him some depth if he’s emotionally intelligent and not just shouting blow things up guy. He probably understands Vortex and Swindle a lot better than they realise (and would like if they were aware.)
Not sure how talking to Motormaster would go either but Brawl would try IMO yeah,
honestly vibes, I like it! i just don't trust myself to write it appropriately jfkfkh, you know how it is. I leave too much up to implication
LOL yeah, I think Vortex just thinks he's somehow really good at not pissing Vortex off and Swindle is like ????? something is up with him but it's okay because i am the master manipulator on this team. and they're both like. well. they aren't *wrong*, but...
I'm not sure if you meant to add more here or not but I honestly think Motormaster would have a real hard time not seeing "the dumbest member of the enemy combiner team told me that i was hurting my teammates and i had to change my behaviors unless i wanted to see them suffer" as anything other than a) an oblique threat, b) an insult, and c) fighting words. all rolled up into one. i do not believe he would actually hear a word out of Brawl's mouth except for that which he could turn into "you want to FUCKING GO, pal? Let's fucking GO then!! square the fuck up!" while brawl is like pls... pls just be nicer to fucking wildrider.....
I’m not sure either because I was up a bit late for me last night and I’m not sure my brain was turned on. XD
Yeah I think Brawl would end up with a fight on his hands. Which if Motormaster has his forcefield up might not go well. At the very least I see it coming to a messy standstill and Hook being annoyed at having to patch more ‘Cons up for getting into fights.
LOL it happens. every so often ill write something completely nonsensical and have to come back in the morning and go "hm. what the fuck" and fail to figure out what i was trying to say
Truth be told I don't think Brawl would get his ass completely handed to him, but mostly because if anyone knows the benefit of going "ah fuck help" over comms to Their Entire Fucking Team it's Brawl. Why would he let Motormaster cave his skull in when he can just stall for long enough for Onslaught and Co to show up? He knows better than to think he could take Motormaster on himself.
Which just means more work for Hook, probably. Four (i don't think Swindle would show up unless ordered) to ten sets of minor injuries instead of two sets of relatively significant ones.
My half awake fic ideas are either a gold mine or incoherent I find. XP
Yeah tbh he’d know when to call for help. A pissed off Motormaster is a phone for help situation. (Swindle just happened to be ‘busy’ and also didn’t want to get anywhere near aggro truck who could throw him like a bowling pin.)
Hook needs a pay rise for everything he deals with imo. XD
