ETA: forgot that some of the fics I read this week were off ao3 XD I knew there was a good reason to do this.

Fucking love this fic; it's a companion to the ever-fucking-excellent Shatterpoint and by god does it kick you in the teeth super hard and then make you say "thank you" because it hurts so good. Super highly recommend. I don't usually, like, care that much about fics like these but ;-; wehhhhh aughhhh someone be nice to Riella she needs someone to be nice to her Right Now. i will cry

Back at it with another fic by Polyhexian, who genuinely never misses. I've mentioned this one before but it gives me many feelings so I'm gonna mention it again. I don't remember if it updated or if I just decided to reread the whole thing from the beginning because I felt like it, but I reread the whole thing from the beginning and maaaaan ;-; the feeeeeels... Deadlock's life sucks.

Speaking of authors who never miss! I've reread this one enough times that it probably counts as a "comfort fic" (ao3 is counting 40 times but i know it's more than that because i've had one tab open on my phone that i've reread many times while out of internet access lmao) and i just. I really like this one! it's really good! Shattered glass Tarn/Pharma noncon with sex viruses and intense body modification and extremely spicy characterization and ough the desperation in it is just so fucking spicy. it's so good. no one is having ANY FUN except me :) i am having so much fun :) every time i read it i sit there just completely brain zooted thinking about Tarn's spike and the way he'd flinch if i touched it for like hours. anyway this one is fucking delightful and also comes highly recommended by me, i love it so much
4. Oil in the Seams by neveralarch
I was honestly really surprised (pleasantly) by how much I enjoy the Banners from the Turrets series (which this fic is a part of), having been a known Rung Disliker for like literally since I read the comics the first time around. Regardless, this is a really good Rung and I like him a lot. Oil in the Seams is kind of its own thing at the end of the series but it doesn't really seem like it'd make all that much sense without context, and the rest of the series is well worth reading so i'm just gonna frontload with that. "I thought you don't like rung?" Yeah except this one. I make an exception for Banners Rung.
Anyways, this fic is about Megatron discovering that sometimes he's attracted to people and having a CRISIS about it, featuring gems such as "Megatron thinks attraction is against praxis, so he goes to talk to Soundwave about it, and Soundwave goes 'attraction is not praxis' and Megatron is like, inside his brain, 'well yes but of course Soundwave is the best at praxis because he is never attracted to anyone' and learns nothing" and "megatron sees someone taller and buffer than him and turns shy and fumbling" and it's great. i love watching him suffer. i love him
5.A Handful of Lies by BunnyFair
Still objectively a mediocre fic. Still scratches my id good and hard. vortex is winning at this relationship (says Vortex, torpedoing his relationship for the lolz)
6. vortex's no good very bad great day by Peruse
Somehow even better on a reread. This man is so annoying, I love Vortex more than words can express. he just sucks so much. he refuses to let anything just be easy.

okay the theme for this week's readings is looking to be "rereading fics that were great the first time around and did not stop" lmao. I've also separately clicked into this one [checks ao3 stats] 10 full times and it is all of 314 words of excellent nommy morbid goodness. It's simple - Smokescreen slips on something, smacks his head, and then falls into a giant gear to get crushed to death by Cybertron's uncaring factories- but my god it is so fucking good. i think about it every time i see a gear ever, it's so good, please read it if you like major character death

[shoves this in my mouth and eats it very much thank you] Prime!Wheeljack Wrecker Induction featuring: beloved bastard impactor and the coolest terrible project in the history of mechkind, I love this fic so much. The character writing is top notch and I feel the "how dare you bring me a cool project like this, i am trying to be indignant and mad!" in my soul. Also I love this Impactor. This Impactor sucks (honorary) and I want to hit him in his smug face (this is a compliment) and I love him, I love him so much. guy who knows he is winning and he knows you know he's winning and he is waiting for you to say it <3 this fic is so good

Another reread? Perish the thought. Anyway Vortex is just suck an absolute grade a dick in this one, i love that he is just genuinely horrendous. if you haven't read Shatterpoint yet i question what you are doing with your life (unless you're waiting for it to all be posted to read it, in which case i applaud your patience but i can't do that, i'll die). I fucking love this fic. There should be more mystery novels centering around mind readers who can't communicate efffectively and their AI buddies. I am so attached to Blue and Trip it is not even funny.

13. Target Practice by CasusFere
From the Love is a Warm Gun series, following Needlenose and Spinister of Mayhem from the Marvel comics. I don't know Marvel yet, I'm planning to read it one of these days when my brain feels slightly less broiled, but I find that it stands alone alright as long as you acknowledge that Spinister is a scary assassin (made very clear through the series) and that Needlenose is on his team (also made very clear lol). Anyway they're cute as hell here; Spinister teaches Needlenose to shoot and Needlenose is fucking bad at it
14. Mayhem Ambush by CasusFere
Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. I liked this one; I feel like it didn't stand alone quite as well on account of being a missing scene from the comic but I knew that going in so it was like, not a big deal. Anyway I just enjoy the character writing in this one a lot. Carnivac, who has apparently quit Mayhem and joined the Wreckers (!! interesting to me from an IDW 2005 Wreckers Enjoyer pov) takes down Spinister and Needlenose like it's basically nothing, it's delicious.
15. Survival by CasusFere
Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series, a followup to Cry Wolf! and Mayhem Ambush. Short and sweet (for a given value of sweet, I guess...) a seriously wounded Needlenose is found by a seriously injured Spinister, and they limp off to safety together so they don't go die. :) it just makes me happy

Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. Needlenose and Spinister screw after Needlenose finds his courage in the bottom of a bottle; Needlenose wakes up sober, goes "oh fuck Spinister is going to kill me to death" and then Spinister is like "yeah no i wasn't even drinking. it's fine this is very funny actually. i like you as a person." A nice little fic. I really like how it's, like, objectively funny fluff but even then the edge of "spinister kills people really effectively all the time and will not hesitate to kill if pushed" is still everpresent.

Spinister like, considers to himself how much he hates dealing with the rank and file because they are so mean and they love violence and bragging about it, and he doesn't really value sadism and brutality the way that the rest of the army does. and then he comes home and Needlenose has rigged his computer to diplay a video game output and he's just like :).
Not really my favorite fic in the series, but I think it'd land better if I knew the characters more.
18. Midnight at the Smelters by CasusFere
Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. Needlenose goes to meet a new contact at the smelting pits, and is creeped out about it the whole time. This one is better unspoiled so i will just say it's deliciously creepy and a great little horror piece; probably my second-favorite in the series if only because Controversy by Design is just so fucking funny to me.

I really enjoyed this one as well. The Combaticons go to a terrible space station and it's full of zombies. I forgot how much I like good old-fashioned cheesy monster horror until I read this one, and then i was like "ah"

21. Ten Vorn Anniversary by ultharkitty
Not a ton of good old-fashioned horror featuing the world's worst helicopter; this one not only exists but is also pretty damn good. Guy who already wants to murder people constantluy and has hallucinations goes to haunted asylum, ignores the ghosts telling him to murder people and pretending to be hallucinations so he can get out of the haunted asylum. Genuinely a fun look at Vortex's ability to exercise self-control and his love for lying and convincing people of things that Are Not True, and also just a fun little horror story.

opened fic. Considered whether or not i cared about the Umbrella Academy at all. Closed fic. Nothing to report except that I was told it was good by someone with respectable taste.

Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. Red Alert's life is SO HARD D: Spinister and co break into the Ark and steal a prisoner. This one wasn't my favorite, but I honestly just wasn't feeling the Autobot POV when I read it.

Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. This is the first one I read from this series, but I wound up going back and rereading the rest of the series because I liked it so much. Needlenose, gamedev, makes a game about his own fucking squad (titled Mayhem) and the Autobots are like "the fuck? it must be coincidence" and so is the rest of the internet, convinced its just like a game in bad taste, until Needlenose shows up at the press conference like "hello i love a dramatic entrance. anyway yeah i made this game. any questions?"
it's great. It's so good. 10/10 literally couldnt like it more.

Another fic I opened, considered, read about two paragraphs of, and decided I wasn't remotely interested in. I just wasn't in a "nice" pwp mood this week and I don't really care for mating or heat fics outside of a body horror context.

This fic wrapped up this week! I'm a little disappointed that glimmerglanger didn't lean into the angst and have Cody go through with committing suicide before Obi-Wan came back to Coruscant, because I would've eaten that the FUCK up, but I liked the ending we got, too. Ultimately a very nice angstfest. TFW you're convinced the ghost of your dead jedi almost-boyfriend hates you and hasn't forgiven you because he won't show up to haunt you but actually he's alive so he's not haunting you because you didn't fucking kill him lmao
I eat dramatic irony for breakfast so of course I loved this one.

okay fine yes whatever my one comfort fic is nonconsensual body mod and rape and my other comfort fic is manipulative bullshit with snuff everywhere. i am a normal person and my tastes are extremely human don't question me. anyway this fic is excellent and everyone should read it. this is the one that got me properly interested in vortex in the first place. I've read it so many times I know the url number at a glance. I can tell you the title without having to think about it. I have read this fic a normal amount of times. (I have read this fic two times this week).
anyway yeah. recommended.

Pharma, truly the world's most annoying ex. He's a KISMESIS ex here and it's great, it's spicy, I enjoy it. He sucks and it's great.
Optimus gets sick and Pharma is the only person who knows how to fix it, so Ratchet has to call him and be like "hi i need your help" (in a sort of roundabout way because he doesn't want Pharma knowing he wants him) and then help him get time off his prison sentence for killing a bunch of people and then cooperate with him to get Optimus better and the whole time Pharma is like "i'm better than you and also I want to fuck you kismetically" and it works because Ratchet is like into it (angrily) and doesn't want to be
also shoutout to optimus being like "when you've gotten mad at pharma you fuck like a nail gun" that KILLED me that took me the FUCK out. its living in my head rent free.

Also a Shatterpoint companion piece and another fic I love dearly. Trip my beloved <3 anyway yeah if you like epistolatory i recommend this one. I don't think you even have to read Shatterpoint to get it, but I would recommend reading Shatterpoint first.

Read this because a friend recommended it to me; immediately left to write my own version with my own ocs that was actually more interesting and had less run-of-the-mill kinks because I honestly felt vaguely cheated by the whole thing. Unfortunately for the op i am a dom and I want to touch people's guts and this fic is so blatantly geared towards subs (just like... most other kink writing on ao3, to be fair) and it almost landed in "does it for me" territory before shying all the way away.
It is also just objectively not that good and not terribly well written. I can't really recommend it unless you like the idea of being abducted by an evil doctor and experimented on but only to turn your body into like a meat-built version of a leather puppyplay suit or to have someone make your ass fat against your will.

It's definitely been established at this point that I don't particularly mind watersports and I really like the Little Copter series, so it should come as no surprise that I think this one fucking rocks. Vortex has so many weird kinks (affectionate) and no one knows what to make of him, i fucking love it. Also just the character writing in this series on the whole is great but i really love some of the little details that pop up in this one, like Breakdown breaking into the Combaticons' quarters more than once and both Vortex and Swindle threatening him about it. Anyway, yeah, highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this one as well. The Combaticons go to a terrible space station and it's full of zombies. I forgot how much I like good old-fashioned cheesy monster horror until I read this one, and then i was like "ah"

Not a ton of good old-fashioned horror featuing the world's worst helicopter; this one not only exists but is also pretty damn good. Guy who already wants to murder people constantluy and has hallucinations goes to haunted asylum, ignores the ghosts telling him to murder people and pretending to be hallucinations so he can get out of the haunted asylum. Genuinely a fun look at Vortex's ability to exercise self-control and his love for lying and convincing people of things that Are Not True, and also just a fun little horror story.

Also from the Love is a Warm Gun series. This is the first one I read from this series, but I wound up going back and rereading the rest of the series because I liked it so much. Needlenose, gamedev, makes a game about his own fucking squad (titled Mayhem) and the Autobots are like "the fuck? it must be coincidence" and so is the rest of the internet, convinced its just like a game in bad taste, until Needlenose shows up at the press conference like "hello i love a dramatic entrance. anyway yeah i made this game. any questions?"
it's great. It's so good. 10/10 literally couldnt like it more.

I'm a little disappointed that glimmerglanger didn't lean into the angst and have Cody go through with committing suicide before Obi-Wan came back to Coruscant, because I would've eaten that the FUCK up, but I liked the ending we got, too. Ultimately a very nice angstfest. TFW you're convinced the ghost of your dead jedi almost-boyfriend hates you and hasn't forgiven you because he won't show up to haunt you but actually he's alive so he's not haunting you because you didn't fucking kill him lmao
I eat dramatic irony for breakfast so of course I loved this one.

I've read it so many times I know the url number at a glance. I can tell you the title without having to think about it. I have read this fic a normal amount of times. (I have read this fic two times this week).

Optimus gets sick and Pharma is the only person who knows how to fix it, so Ratchet has to call him and be like "hi i need your help" (in a sort of roundabout way because he doesn't want Pharma knowing he wants him) and then help him get time off his prison sentence for killing a bunch of people and then cooperate with him to get Optimus better and the whole time Pharma is like "i'm better than you and also I want to fuck you kismetically" and it works because Ratchet is like into it (angrily) and doesn't want to be
also shoutout to optimus being like "when you've gotten mad at pharma you fuck like a nail gun" that KILLED me that took me the FUCK out. its living in my head rent free.

Read this because a friend recommended it to me; immediately left to write my own version with my own ocs that was actually more interesting and had less run-of-the-mill kinks because I honestly felt vaguely cheated by the whole thing. Unfortunately for the op i am a dom and I want to touch people's guts and this fic is so blatantly geared towards subs (just like... most other kink writing on ao3, to be fair) and it almost landed in "does it for me" territory before shying all the way away.
It is also just objectively not that good and not terribly well written. I can't really recommend it unless you like the idea of being abducted by an evil doctor and experimented on but only to turn your body into like a meat-built version of a leather puppyplay suit or to have someone make your ass fat against your will.

It's definitely been established at this point that I don't particularly mind watersports and I really like the Little Copter series, so it should come as no surprise that I think this one fucking rocks. Vortex has so many weird kinks (affectionate) and no one knows what to make of him, i fucking love it. Also just the character writing in this series on the whole is great but i really love some of the little details that pop up in this one, like Breakdown breaking into the Combaticons' quarters more than once and both Vortex and Swindle threatening him about it. Anyway, yeah, highly recommended.
